About Jan

“On my first day at school I stood by a small easel with 4 pots of primary colours and a stubby round paintbrush. On a fresh sheet of paper I painted a house with lots of windows. At the time I was living in a shed with my refugee widowed mother and my older brother. That day I felt a huge thrill that I could paint an imagined world and I felt a strong sense of empowerment. This is still with me today when I pick up a paintbrush and choose a colour.”
